Reports of West Nile Virus Increasing

More than 2,500 cases of mosquito-transmitted virus confirmed last year

August 12, 2019

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 167 people died in the United States last year due to West Nile virus.

The CDC reported 2,647 cases of the mosquito-transmitted virus last year, 550 more instances than 2017. Neuroinvasive disease, the most severe form of the virus, was also more common last year than any time in the previous decade, CNN reports.

According to the CDC, there is no vaccine for the virus, so protection is key for preventing its spread. While scientists are working on eliminating mosquitoes, find out the best ways to keep your facility safe from these disease-carrying pests.
