Hyatt to Enhance Cleaning Protocols With the Help of GBAC

April 30, 2020

As other hotel chains announce enhancements to their cleaning procedures, Hyatt Hotels Corp. has gone a step further. Hyatt announced a new Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment initiative which incorporates an accreditation process by the Global BioRisk Advisory Council® (GBAC), a division of ISSA.

Beginning in May, Hyatt will introduce GBAC STARTM accreditation through a performance-based cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program focused on establishing sanitary, safe, and healthy hotel environments. Hyatt is the first hospitality brand to commit to GBAC STARTM accreditation, which includes a detailed program for the company’s network of more than 900 properties worldwide.

In addition to GBAC STAR accreditation, Hyatt will also require every one of its properties to have at least one hygiene manager on staff. Hyatt’s hygiene managers will ensure the hotels adhere to the company’s new protocols which include increased cleaning frequency, enhanced food safety and hygiene protocols, and continuous training and certification programs.

“The world as we knew it has been fundamentally changed by COVID-19 and when we are all ready to travel again, we want to make sure that every Hyatt colleague and guest feels confident that each aspect of our commitment is designed with their safety in mind, and that we’re putting their wellbeing first,” said Mark Hoplamazian, Hyatt CEO.
