Custodian Celebrates 80th Birthday With Students
Last week students at Pike County Elementary School in Zebulon, GA, celebrated their beloved custodian with a surprise birthday party.
Eight hundred students greeted Haze Mabry, who had been working at the school for 13 years, with cards, banners, and singing.
To the students who attend Pike Elementary, Mabry is more than an employee of the school. According to The Washington Post, Lori Gilreath, a reading teacher who organized the party and who’s grandchildren used to attend the school, said “Mabry is popular among the students because he’s a steady, kind presence in their lives. If a child approaches him, he will pause to give that child his undivided attention.”
CMM often shares stories of custodians who go above and beyond for the schools they service; showcasing appreciation of their efforts with a party like Mabry’s can actually help to keep valued employees on board.
