CMM Weekly News Recap—July 3, 2019

July 3, 2019

We have good news and bad news in the cleaning industry this holiday week. Minimum wage workers in New Jersey welcomed a pay increase this month. The increases will continue annually the next five years until minimum wage is at US$15 an hour in 2024.

The next round of tariffs on Chinese goods is on hold, good news for facility managers and BSCs who pay the price for higher costs on cleaning goods and equipment from China.

The bad news is germs never take a summer vacation. Simple summer pastimes can lead to disease. A toddler died and three other children sickened after contracting E. coli from petting zoo animals.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that outbreaks of Cryptosporidium, a disease caused by waterborne parasites, have increased an average of 13% each year since 2009. Most people who come down with Crypto pick up the parasite at a pool or splash park.

More good news is we’re coming upon a four-day weekend. Enjoy the Fourth of July! CMM Daily News will return after the holiday weekend, on Monday, July 8.
