CMM Weekly News Recap—April 19, 2019
As we get ready to celebrate Earth Day on Monday, now is a good time to review your company’s recycling practices. New studies have found that plastic trash in landfills and littering the oceans continues to be a problem and will only get worse as the worldwide manufacturing of plastic increases.
When you make sustainable choices in trash management and go about the cleaning and maintenance of your facilities, you can feel good about not only helping to save the environment and providing a healthy environment for building inhabitants, but also for improving your own well-being. A new Cleaning Rush Study, conducted in partnership between Procter & Gamble’s Mr. Clean brand and Ipsos Public Affairs, found that cleaning will improve your mood and give you a rush of adrenaline.
Although we in the industry know cleaning brings many benefits, unfortunately many workers have had to endure sexual harassment from customers and supervisors. A recent investigation by the U.S. Office of Inspector General found 57 reported incidents of sexual harassment among custodians working on Capitol Hill.
We wrap up this recap with a reminder that spring is the perfect time to make plans to travel for cleaning and maintenance education. Two upcoming opportunities for education are the ISSA Show Canada 2019, which takes place June 11-13 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada, and the Cleaning Industry Research Institute’s 2019 Science Symposium July 15-17, at Miami University in Oxford, OH.
