Cleaners Threaten to Strike Over Lack of Holiday Bonuses
Appreciation toward your staff goes a long way, especially at the end of the year. Crews who clean commercial buildings in Germany are threatening to strike if they don’t receive holiday bonuses, European Cleaning Journal reports.
Germany’s industrial union is demanding that the country’s 450,000 commercial building cleaners receive a bonus equal to about half a month’s salary. The building cleaning sector is one of the few occupations that does not benefit from a collectively agreed upon holiday allowance for staff.
Last month, the German Federal Guild Association of the Cleaning Trade rejected the industrial union’s demand for bonuses because wage increases had already been set to even out the salary differences between cleaners in eastern and western Germany. In response, the commercial cleaners have been staging various protests and public demonstrations.
