California University Dorm Residents Complain of Unsanitary Conditions

April 10, 2019

Regular maintenance and cleaning of dorm rooms is a priority of university and college housekeeping crews. Women living in the only all-female residence hall at the University of California, Berkeley in Berkeley, CA, believe crews are not keeping up with the maintenance of Stern Hall, The Daily Californian reports.

Residents complain of pests such as mice, ants, and bedbugs. They say the restrooms have cold showers, and students are not able to do their laundry due to broken washing machines. The residents have called for complete renovation of Stern Hall.

A campus spokesperson said campus maintenance workers are following up on all complaints and that it takes time to eliminate mice and other pests by setting traps and sealing points of entry. The spokesperson said that students experiencing inaccessibility to hot water or laundry facilities should submit a direct work order.
