University Embraces Sustainability

Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, is celebrating its most recent additions to the environmental sustainability program the university started in 2008.

Among the university’s latest accomplishments is its new “grey water” system for newer structures that recycles rainwater for public restrooms to save on water usage. To cut down on plastic water bottle waste, the university also installed fresh-water refilling stations.

“Students don’t have to buy single-use water bottles, which helps the environment, but also helps their pocket books,” the Temple University’s Sustainability Office Director Kathleen Grady told Temple News.

Temple University is also the only university in Philadelphia to house an on-site solar plant.
