For instance, North Carolina State University, like many organizations, has a growing concern for sustainability. The university has more than 32,500 students and 10 million square feet of facilities. Protecting the environment and human health, while reducing water consumption, is an undertaking that affects all departments, including housekeeping.

"Previously, we used foam guns and traditional mop and bucket cleaning systems," says Albert Scott, NC State's director of housekeeping. "But, to reduce water consumption and minimize health risks, we sought a more efficient means of cleaning."

"The only problem is that we don't have enough of them," says Scott. "They're so popular that our managers would order one for all 275 custodial employees if we could afford it."
