Vermont Moe’s marks a chain first
Friday, November 13, 2009
ATLANTA–Last month, a Williston, Vermont-based Moe’s Southwest Grill celebrated the opening of the chain's first green certified restaurant, according to an article on Earthtimes.org.

Franchise partners Sueayn and Philip Wood, along with the entire Moe’s team, set out two years ago to make this restaurant the first LEED-certified in the chain and in the state of Vermont, stated the article.

Among some of the green features that helped this restaurant earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification include: LED lighting; energy-efficient cooking equipment; and a technologically-advanced air control system, which is expected to reduce energy consumption by 22 percent.

The building, which was constructed using locally sourced materials and low-emission laminates, paint and adhesives, is equipped with low flow sink aerators, low flow toilets and waterless urinals.

"This project has been a great learning experience for the Moe’s brand," said Moe’s President Paul Damico. "It has challenged our operations, development and supply chain teams to find solutions that meet the USGBC's high standards."
