Georgia-Pacific donates $100,000 for school baseball fields
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
HOSFORD, FL — A $100,000 donation from Georgia-Pacific Corporation has changed the lives of Hosford Elementary and Junior High School students: They now have their own baseball and softball fields, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

The entire student body of roughly 320 attended a dedication ceremony yesterday, which was also attended by former Seattle Mariners pitcher Tim Davis, former Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox reliever Tim Young and former Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers pitcher Charlie Liebrandt, the story stated.

According to the story, the former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitchers threw out ceremonial first pitches and handed out autographed baseballs to each student.

Davis, who coaches at Hosford, said: "It means everything. Just the fact that we're going to be able to host a home game and build community support, it's just going to be a big thing. This is really a state-of-the-art field. You won't find another middle school baseball field as nice as the ones we have here."

The new baseball and softball fields are complete with bleachers, scoreboards and a press box along with new fencing, spacious dugouts and a storage area filled with equipment like new uniforms and a mower to maintain the fields, the story noted.

A pitching machine and batting cage structure are also in the works, a giant leap from the cow pasture that was used as a practice field last year, the story added.
