University custodians win national green cleaning award
Monday, November 10, 2008
SANTA BARBARA, CA — The University of California at Santa Barbara custodial staff has won the Grand Award for green cleaning in a contest sponsored by American School & University magazine, the Green Cleaning Network and the Healthy Schools Campaign, according to the Daily Nexus, the university's student newspaper.

The university's more than 100 custodians use only Green Seal-certified products, and, since 2004, have been working under an official Low Environmental Impact Cleaning Policy, the story noted.

The school's sustainability coordinator, who nominated the custodians for the award, stated in a press release: "I felt they should be recognized for all the hard work they do to maintain a clean and healthy indoor environment for all of us to work and study in."
