APPA grants first Educational Facilities Professional (EFP) credentials
ALEXANDRIA, VA – APPA, the association dedicated to leadership in educational facilities, is proud to announce the granting of the first-ever Educational Facilities Professional (EFP) credential standard.
The EFP is as a way to validate the unique knowledge and competence required of an accomplished professional in the educational facilities field. The credential is earned through a comprehensive examination testing knowledge in four core areas key to the profession: general administration, operations and maintenance, energy and utilities, and planning, design and construction.
The first EFP credentials were granted to: Leon Bivens, University of Maryland/Eastern Shore; Don Blackston, Spelman College/Clement & Wynn LLC; Thomas Blume, University of Portland; Allen Boyette, North Carolina State University; David Crane, University of Minnesota/Twin Cities; Richard Gentry, Texas A&M International University; Harley Grimes, Middle Tennessee State University; David Hatch, North Carolina State University; Martin Hughes, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey; Jeff McConnell, Middle Tennessee State University; Raymond Popp, Principia Corp.; Thomas Shewan, Florida State University; Jeremy Todd, University of Minnesota/Twin Cities; Roger Wakeman, Philips Exeter Academy; and Eugene Wojtynek, Pine Crest Preparatory School.
“Working for an educational institution is a calling, and one that affects the future every day,” said Jack Colby, former APPA President and Chair of APPA’s Board for Educational Facilities Professionals Certification. “Those who earn the EFP designation grasp the interdependence of each structure and space and the ways in which every building at an institution communicates a sense of place, history, and real connection with its purpose and those it serves.”
Those interested in pursuing the EFP can take the next preparatory course (not required to sit for the exam) February 8 in Newport Beach, CA. The next EFP exam will be offered two times – on February 8 and February 9 – in Newport Beach.
