xpedx Celebrates Spring, Sustainability With Delivery of Butterfly Kits to Classrooms
Nearly 800 classrooms nationally took part in program
CINCINNATI, Ohio – xpedx, the leading business-to-business distribution company in North America and a business of International Paper, partnered with Earth’s Birthday Project to bring a fun and educational science activity to classrooms across the U.S. This spring, more than 1,200 butterfly kits were delivered to schools, allowing students to learn about the amazing transformation of caterpillars into butterflies. The project was made possible at no cost to the schools through the support of xpedx and funding from the International Paper Foundation.
“The environmental-type program provides a unique and memorable hands-on experience that engages children in science and math,” said Rick Ouellette, vice president, Communications, xpedx. “The students get the opportunity to use and develop their skills through the wonders of metamorphosis, anatomy and life cycles and through recording their observations with this project. In observing the life cycle of caterpillars, students are introduced to sustainability, one of xpedx’s most important initiatives.”
In all, nearly 800 classrooms in more than 400 communities across the U.S. enjoyed the experience of butterfly metamorphosis this spring. Each kit contained all the necessary elements for students to enjoy the transformation process. For nearly 20 years, International Paper have partnered with Earth’s Birthday Project to bring the fun of science into classrooms nationwide. Without the funding of the IP Foundation, many of the participating schools could not afford the cost of the science materials.
