EDMONTON, ON — A wildcat strike of health care workers is spreading across Alberta as hospital support staff press the government for a new contract, according to The Globe and Mail.
Early last Thursday, members of a union representing more than 1,000 support workers walked out of Edmonton''s Royal Alexandra Hospital, the article stated.
According to the article, hundreds of other heath care workers throughout the province followed suit, the strike spread to dozens of other heath centers as the day progressed.
The illegal strike by Alberta Union of Provincial Employees'' members caused parts of Royal Alexandra Hospital to shut down as management struggled to clean the hospital, the article noted.
