ATLANTA — Jimmie Lewis Davis, known to most as "Uncle Butch," died Saturday from gastric cancer complications, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Born in Atlanta, Davis spent two years in the Army, after which he returned home, worked odd jobs and became a custodian at DeKalb''s Chamblee High, the article noted.

"He took pride in what he did as a custodian because he kept the grounds safe for the students," said Briana Turner, Davis''s niece.

"He liked his job. To him, Chamblee High was part of his family, and he was a big family person," Turner added.

Despite his age, Davis could often be counted on to join the students in a pick-up football or basketball game, the article added.
