CONCORD, CA — Hotel workers at the Holiday Inn Concord and Crowne Plaza who are members of the UNITE HERE Local 2850 are fighting attempts to strip them of their benefits, according to the Bay Area Independent.
The Holiday Inn is proposing raising family health insurance premiums from $40 to nearly $750 a month out of pocket, the story stated.
There has been a steady campaign to scale back benefits of employees in many area hotels since 2007; of the seven major hotels in Contra Costa County, only three are now unionized, the story noted.
On average, workers at these two hotels make $5 an hour less than the rest of the Bay area hotel workers, unionized or not, the story added.
