SAN DIEGO, CA — Unionized janitors are expected to announce the ratification of their new contract today, according to KFMB-TV.
Several protests, including one that blocked off a busy stretch of road, took place during intense contract negotiations between the union and contractors, the article stated.
According to the article, the Service Employees International Union-United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW) will announce the ratification at a ceremony at City Hall.
"For more than two months, the bargaining committee met with contractors who resisted wage increases and healthcare for our families," said Mara Aldama, member of the bargaining committee and janitor for five years.
"We are proud of what we accomplished and will continue to do what we have to for our families," Aldama added.
