JUPITER, FL — A thief posing as a janitor at the Courtyard Gardens assisted living facility made off with thousands of dollars in goods after he successfully distracted employees on two separate heists, according to WPBF-TV.
The first incident occurred on July 16 when the unidentified man was confronted by an employee, to whom he said he was hired by a doctor to clean the floors, and was told to leave, but not before he stole the employee''s purse, a laptop and a high-tech scanner that the doctor uses to determine his patients’ nutritional fitness, the story stated.
The second incident was on July 28 and the man, who was captured on video surveillance with a broom posing as a janitor as to not arouse suspicion, made off with several employees'' purses and cellular telephones, the story noted.
According to the Jupiter Police Department, the victims'' credit cards were being used by two women at local gas stations, video game stores and two other stores in Palm Beach County.
Donna Phillips, the director of marketing at Courtyard Gardens, said: "First time in 10 years that we''ve had something like this. The residents are perfectly safe. He never went to the residents'' section at all."
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is urged to contact Detective Jared Kenerson at (561) 741-2422, the story added.
