COOKEVILLE, TN — Tennessee Tech University (TTU) custodians have been fighting for their jobs for over a year, according to the Herald-Citizen.
Last week, the university issued a letter of intent to contract its custodial services out to Service Solutions Corporation, the article stated.
According to the article, the university currently spends nearly $3 million on custodial services; by outsourcing, the university would see a savings of around $1 million a year.
Custodians with 15 of more years of service as of June 30, 2012, would have to choose from two options: To remain a TTU employee or to accept a severance package, the article noted.
Any long-term employee of TTU who decides to stay with the university would see no change in their employment status, the article added.
