CAPE CORAL, FL — A Cape Coral family that''s been leading the fight against toxic drywall is now tearing it out of their home, according to WINK-TV.
Richard and Pat Kampf have been the poster family for the toxic drywall problem in Southwest Florida; federal officials have even been to their home to see its corrosive effects, the article stated.
His house is now ripped down to the wall studs: "By tomorrow, it''s going to be completely down to concrete block, all the wiring, all the mechanicals, all the HVAC is going to be out of here," said Jason Roach of Abisso Cleanse.
Abisso Cleanse has worked on more than two-dozen drywall-infected homes, going a step beyond the government''s recent recommendation to gut an infected building, the article noted.
For the Kampfs, it''s a six-figure fix to pay on top of their mortgage, the article added.
"We have to pay for this remediation out of our pocket," Kampf said. "This didn''t come from a settlement. This didn''t come from the heavens. This came from a loan."
