The poll was conducted by e-mail last month and approximately 350 end users, distributors and facility managers took the survey, the release stated.
According to the release, 39 percent of respondents use LinkedIn, 22 percent use Twitter and 22 percent use Facebook.
Of those who use social media websites, 80 percent said it was for business-related reasons, the release noted.
Jolynn Kennedy, marketing manager for Tornado Industries, said: "It’s kind of amazing this many people are already visiting and using these new Web sites. A year ago, most people probably had not even heard of them. Some sites may end up serving our industry, providing a vital purpose, such as allowing for instant messaging, special news and educational announcements, discussions on service needs and product demonstrations. Other sites may fall behind or never find their niche. We will just have to wait and see."
