SOUTHGATE, MI — Friday saw more than half the student body at Allen Elementary school absent after coming down with a stomach virus, according to WXYZ-TV.
More than 180 students and four employees were not at school due to vomiting and diarrhea, the article stated.
According to the article, calls from parents reporting sick children began filtering in Friday morning, and several students were sent home from school after they exhibited similar symptoms.
The principal of Allen Elementary sent a letter home to parents Friday indicating that the school would spend the weekend disinfecting all student touch points, including classrooms, cafeteria and office areas, the article noted.
The school remained closed on Monday in order to be sure the weekend''s disinfection had the proper time to work, the article added.
