AUSTIN, TX — With this year''s South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival wrapped up, the city says its toughest task is cleaning up after the crowds, according to KEYE-TV.
Each year of the festival sees the number of attendees growing by leaps and bounds; so, too, does the amount of trash, waste and litter left behind, the article stated.
According to the article, as revelers leave, the city''s cleanup efforts are nearly non-stop as 30 men and women comb the area cleaning up the mess left behind.
"It was just astronomical the trash and, this year, it seemed like it was worse. How bad did it get? Pretty bad; just a wall of people then trash would pile up against the door. By the time we got here in the morning, it was cleaned up. We were very impressed by that," said Tracy Flynn.
The city estimates the price tag for post-SXSW cleanup is around $120,000, the article noted.
