MASON CITY, IA — Seven third-shift custodians at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) will lose their jobs to an outside contractor, according to the Globe Gazette.

The contract with FBG Services Corporation, which went into effect on Monday, will save the school roughly $85,000, the article stated.

According to the article, employees affected by the decision to outsource will have the opportunity to apply for similar jobs within FBG.

"This has been a very difficult decision. We never like to see anyone lose their job," said NIACC President Debra Derr.

"These continue to be very challenging economic times requiring the college to re-evaluate and make changes to our operations that are in the best interest of the services and educational mission of the college," Derr added.
