SCHAMBURG, IL — Federal Building Services Inc., the company responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Woodfield Mall, recently received the Science-based Cleaning Certificate of Excellence award, according to a press release.

The Science-based Cleaning Certificate of Excellence award is contingent on a company scoring at least 80 percent on the Clean Audit, a third-party evaluation of the cleaning process, the release stated.

Allen Randolph, an auditor for Clean Audit, said: "It''s time to switch from, ''If it looks clean, it must be clean'' to science-based cleaning so we know that our buildings provide a healthy environment to live, work and play in."

The Clean Audit examines all aspects of the cleaning process, including: Compliance, cleaning process design, training, recordkeeping and the cleanliness of the facility itself, the release noted.

Cleanliness, as it related to the Clean Audit, is gauged by a set of scientific measurements for biological contamination of surfaces, indoor air quality and floor safety, the release added.
