MARATHON, FL — The Monroe County School Board has delayed their decision to outsource custodial duties in order to seek input from its finance committee, according to the KeyNoter.

Board members were looking for a more detailed analysis of how employee benefits would differ from those of employees directly employed by the district, the article stated.

According to the article, representatives of GCA Services Group have said they will offer employment to all 74 custodians who would lose their jobs due to the move to privatize their department.

The finance committee estimated the district could save around $800,000 in the first year alone, the article noted.

They think they will save money now. I lost my custodian job last year due to cost cutting. I looked at the BOE briefs for the last meeting and they were bitching that ARAMARK had an extra 90,000 in cost for the month of April, May & June. Our school BOE also had to bring in an outside firm at the cost of 1400 a month to supervise ARAMARK and make sure they were going along to terms of their contract. So much for cost savings.
