SHAKOPEE, MN — Three elementary schools have been awarded the 2011 ENERGY STAR rating for significant energy savings, according to the Shakopee Patch.
The schools, Eagle Creek, Red Oak and Pearson Elementary, were awarded for conserving their use of heating, cooling and other energy-consuming equipment, the article stated.
According to the article, the head custodians at each school were also recognized for their part in keeping the schools operating with a 35 percent savings in energy use.
"New, energy-saving lights in the district''s gymnasiums and classrooms were installed, an investment that will start paying the district back in cost savings in two years," said John Gates, Shakopee schools'' buildings and grounds manager.
Overall, the district saw about a 10 percent energy cost savings in the 2010-2011 academic year, the article noted.
