CLARKSVILLE, TN — The Rossview Elementary School, which is still under construction, has mold contamination officials hope will not delay the school''s August opening, according to the Leaf-Chronicle.
Biscan Construction, the general contractor for the job, says that mold contamination is not uncommon in construction projects of this scale, the story stated.
Jim Sumrell, the school system''s chief operations officer, said: "Immediately after the weather event [on June 18,] the humidity levels prevented the water from quickly drying, thereby creating the perfect environment for mold growth."
The black mold around the school, which was cleaned with bleach and painted over with a sealer/stain blocker, formed on the painted surface of the walls, making it easier to clean than if it had formed in the porous drywall, the story noted.
Costs associated with the mold remediation project were absorbed by Biscan Construction, the story added.
