NORTHVILLE, MI — The Northville Board of Education has unanimously voted to privatize the district''s custodial services, effective October 15, according to the Observer and Eccentric.

The decision was described as a tough decision and made from a position of current and potential financial hardship, the article stated.

According to the article, Grand Rapids Building Services (GRBS) was awarded a two-year contract that will save the district upwards of $800,000 a year.

Joan Wadsworth, board president, said the board values the work that has been done by the current staff, but that the district has been put into the position of outsourcing by the funding cuts made by the state, the article noted.
