NORMAL, IL — Custodian John Burton saved a choking six-year-old student, reported The Daily Wildcat.
Student Hope Knoerle began choking during lunch, and Burton promptly used the Heimlich maneuver, which he learned at a class at the school, the article stated.
While she did not initially respond to the Heimlich, the food was dislodged while Burton was running her to a phone to call an ambulance, the article reported.
Burton has been honored a number of times for his act of quick thinking, including by the Normal Fire Department and the school, according to the article.
