PANAMA CITY, FL — The Bay District School Board voted 4-1 Wednesday to exercise a 30-day termination clause on a janitorial services contract with a company that employed illegal immigrants as cleaning subcontractors, according to The Walton Sun.
"I think we need to set a precedent. We''re not going to look the other way," said board member Ryan Neves, who put the issue on Wednesday''s meeting agenda.
In a September 30 warrants sweep, the Bay County Sheriff''s Office, in conjunction with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, arrested five illegal immigrants employed by Rite Way Services as cleaning staff, the article stated.
John Harrison, the district''s general manager of purchasing, said the contract will be re-advertised.
The contract termination would affect janitorial services at 11 district schools, the article noted.
