PANAMA CITY, FL — The Bay District School Board
voted 4-1 Wednesday to exercise a 30-day termination clause on a janitorial services contract with a company that employed illegal immigrants as cleaning subcontractors, according to The Walton Sun.
"I think we need to set a precedent. We''re not going to look the other way," said board member Ryan Neves, who put the issue on Wednesday''s meeting agenda.
In a September 30 warrants sweep, the Bay County Sheriff''s Office
, in conjunction with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency
, arrested five illegal immigrants employed by Rite Way Services
as cleaning staff, the article stated.
John Harrison, the district''s general manager of purchasing, said the contract will be re-advertised.
The contract termination would affect janitorial services at 11 district schools, the article noted.
