BONNER SPRINGS, KS — District custodians could pay the price for the Unified School District 204 to save nearly $180,000, according to The Chieftan.

On April 18, the USD 204 board will hear a proposal from PCI Building Services, the building contractor that already cleans three schools in the district, the article noted.

PCI officials are proposing to take over the cleaning of the remaining two schools, which would mean an uncertain future for the district''s 12 custodians, the article stated.

"It''s a potential, yes," said Superintendent Robert VanMaren.

"We''ve been pleased with the service so far, and we''re trying to look at every possibility that can save us money over the next … couple of years in particular," VanMaren added.

According to the article, board member Dave Pierce said, "losing any more staff members than the district has already lost in the past due to budget cuts would be a difficult pill to swallow."
