SALYERSVILLE, KY — The unchecked spread of the flu, stomach viruses and other illnesses has caused Magoffin County Schools to close, according to WKYT-TV.

With students and staff out of the way on Friday, custodians were able to get to work cleaning absolutely everything and anything students touch, the article stated.

"All the lunchroom tables, all nooks and crannies in there," said Joseph Ryan McFarland, custodian at Salyersville Grade School.

"Desks, chairs, where the germs is usually passed around, just going over everything, the fountains, just double checking," said James Summa, custodian at Salyersville Grade School.

According to the article, before the closing, Salyersville Grade School saw 65 to 100 students absent every day.

All Magoffin County schools were closed for the entire weekend to allow crews to thoroughly clean and disinfect, the article noted.
