SAN DIEGO — A labor leader and six other supporters will fast on Friday in support of janitors during contract negotiations, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are asking for health benefits that are not currently available or are at risk, the article stated.
According to the article, a spokesman for SEIU said the workers hope the fast will draw attention to workers'' demands as they negotiate with their respective contracting firms.
"It''s just a few days of sacrifice to bring light to an important issue," said local labor leader Lorena Gonzalez of the hunger strike.
