Wildfire recovery will cost millions

August 1, 2012

DENVER — The wildfires that spread across the state and burned homes, businesses, bridges and other infrastructure necessary for everyday life were devastating — and the disaster isn''t over when the wildfire is out and the firefighters go home, according to the Huffington Post.

Electricity, water and gas lines all have to be repaired and recharged, while debris from burned-out homes has to be hauled away and new houses must be built, the article stated.

According to the article, even if the work starts while the fire is still burning, experts believe the recovery could take years and untold millions of dollars simply to make conditions livable again.

In Colorado alone, insurers are estimating that wildfires have caused more than $450 million in damage to personal property, and that number is only expected to grow as the damage is assessed, the article noted.
