Wednesday's Ask the Experts: Pet odor

March 23, 2011
Wednesday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: I am trying to eliminate cat odor from an upholstry couch cushion. I have tried the oxygenated cleaner, but still have an odor.
The answer:
The foam inside a farbic-covered cushion is extremely difficult if not impossible to properly clean, deodorize and sanitize. If the cushion has a zip off cover, replace the foam. If there is no zipper, you may want to take the cushion to an upholstery shop and have the foam replaced and then have the fabric cleaned and deodorized. If the fabric is available it may be easier and cheaper ... — Gary Clipperton, president of National Pro Clean Corp.
