Washington D.C. being recognized as leading Green Community

March 21, 2011

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently recognized the District of Columbia as the country’s leading Green Power Community, according to a press release.

This program involves using power generated from wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, biogas and low-impact hydroelectric methods, thereby lowering emissions, the article reported.

"Our leap as a city toward using green, renewable energy demonstrates just how committed we are to cleaner air and a healthier environment," said Christophe Tulou, director of the District Department of the Environment (DDOE).

The city will continue to use the alternative power supplies and attempt to have neighboring communities convert to green energy sources as well, the article stated.
