University progresses towards greenhouse gas goal
EUGENE, OR — The University of Oregon is making steady progress towards its goal to curtail greenhouse gasses, just two years after adopting its plan, according to The Register-Guard.
The university''s goal is to have zero greenhouse gas emissions on campus by 2050, the article stated.
According to the article, six of eight energy efficiency upgrades that have been started since July 2011 have been completed and the remaining two will be completed this year.
All new buildings must now meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards, the article noted.
The university is launching what it calls "a web-based energy dashboard" this year that monitors electricity, chilled water (for cooling) and steam (for heating) consumption for the main campus, the article added.
