WHAT: In today’s society sustainability and “green” living are top concerns affecting everyone. To meet these demands UC Irvine Extension has developed a Sustainability Leadership Certificate Program and a new Specialized Studies program in Sustainable Buildings: Renewable Energy Management designed to help participants achieve broader career goals and understand how sustainability relates to business. The free one-hour online Webinar event titled, “The Top 10 Ways to Green Your World: People. Planet. Profit,” will provide insights into sustainability as a new trend in the corporate world.
WHY: Integrating sustainability into business provides the individual with a competitive advantage. It is vital to understand the importance of greener living and how it relates to corporations. Webinar participants will be provided with key tips for developing sustainable business solutions and how to incorporate them with day-to-day management activities.
WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. P.T.
WHO: The speakers’ panel will feature experts who apply green and sustainable practices to their current industries, including:
Brandon Tanner, M.B.A,F.M.P has divided his career between California''s two largest electric utility companies, Pacific Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison. Tanner has overseen the operations and maintenance of 2.2 million sq. ft. of properties located in the greater San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose areas. He is currently Manager of Programs & Contracts for Southern California Edison, providing strategic, operational, and sustainability support to the Corporate Real Estate Department.
Jeffrey J. Howell, Esq., LEED AP, is vice president and associate counsel in the Western Regional Legal Department of Fidelity National Title Group, a Fortune 500 company. His experience in legal issues ranges from legal analysis, mediation, and negotiation as well as operations management in the Legal Department. His involvement in sustainable building includes working with startup companies, policy, legislation, as well as proposed endorsements linking sustainable building to title insurance. He is also involved in solar and wind generation infrastructure. Additionally, Howell is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Orange County Chapter Advocacy and Education Committees, a licensed real estate broker and member of the California State Bar.
The panel will be moderated and led by Kirwan Rockefeller, Ph.D., director of UC Irvine Extension, Sustainability Leadership Certificate Program. Rockefeller will share with Webinar participant’s guidelines for incorporating sustainability into a new or existing career, and what the UC Irvine Extension sustainability leadership certificate program can offer.
