Troubleshooter: Sealing cement floors
FORT WORTH, TX — Cement is being transformed into more upbeat and modern floor coverings that are getting the attention of building owners and designers, according to a press release.
Once installed, however, caring for these new cement floors is the job of cleaning professionals, and one of their first concerns is whether the cement should be sealed, the release stated.
"To properly protect and maintain a cement floor, a sealant is usually necessary. The real issue is which sealant to use," said Mike Englund, a professional cleaning trainer and product manager for Powr-Flite.
According to the release, there are four key types of cement sealants, including:
• Penetrating sealers
"Before using any sealant, cleaning professionals should first determine what kind of ''look'' the client wants for the floor, then double check with the manufacturer what they advise. The distributor will likely know which sealant is most compatible with the cement floor installed," Englund added.
