Train cleaner becomes Olympic hero

August 7, 2012

LONDON — After misplacing their 2012 Olympic Games tickets, a mother and son are thankful for the diligence and dedication of a train cleaner in helping find them, according to The Press Association.

The train the duo had previously been onboard was already cleaned and no tickets were found, but Greater Anglia train cleaner Gaspare Giarracco volunteered to sift through trashcans at the Liverpool Street station for the precious tickets, the story stated.

As luck would have it, Giarracco was able to retrieve the tickets and the mother and son were able to continue on to Olympic Park to enjoy the remainder of the Games, the story noted.

Giarracco received a special service award from his company for going the extra mile to ensure a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Games could go ahead, the story added.

Greater Anglia Customer Service Director Andrew Goodrum said, "Gaspare really is a champion. His actions exemplify what good customer service is all about. He is a great role model for us all."
