Thursday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: Our elevator cab floors are Emperador and Botticcino Classico marble with epoxy grout (over thin-set and a steel pan base). We need to thoroughly clean the floors and remove the years of finish and sealer build-up. Is there a product or a method that can be used rather than using a stripper, or must a stripper be used as well? Also, is it best to hone for a natural finish or apply a non-skid finish/sealant?
The answer:
Marble reacts with acids, but finish strippers are alkaline so you should be safe with a careful application to loosen the old finishes. Use a pad or brush that will agitate the solution without scratching the floor.
