Thieves target toilets

January 31, 2012

ARLINGTON, OH — Thieves in Upper Arlington have been targeting automatic toilet flushers in various restaurants and restrooms, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

John Hahn, a handyman, explained that many of the flushers contain a metal called red brass, which can often be sold at scrap yards for $2.50 a pound, the article stated.

According to the article, the automatic flusher part of the toilet can be costly to repair; Hahn would like to see safeguards put in place to cut down on the ease of selling the scrap metal.

"It''s an ongoing problem, not only for a small business like myself, but other businesses and homeowners, and someone''s got to step up and do something about it," Hahn said.
