Thermal remediation puts the heat on bedbugs
March 31, 2010
The bedbug problem, which has led to a class-action lawsuit being filed in Polk County District Court after a building manager failed to address the situation, has been ongoing for months and left as many as 250 tenants with bites all over their legs, arms, back and face, the story stated.
According to the article, though a specific date has not been scheduled, the thermal remediation process will consist of heating the apartments to 140 degrees Fahrenheit in an attempt to kill the bedbugs.
Because many of the tenants have limited mobility or are otherwise unable to secure temporary living arrangements, concerns are mounting as to what they will do while the remediation takes place, the story noted.
Dave Zwickey, chief executive officer (CEO) of American Baptist Homes of the Midwest, said: "We will begin to determine how we make it right with them. I mean, that isn''t to say this ultimately won''t be settled by the courts, but again, I feel we have a responsibility — even though it''s a little late in the game to try and do what we can."
