Theft charges against janitor dropped

DES MOINES, IA — Charges against a janitor accused of stealing wallets have been dropped, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Marshall Clemons was charged with two counts of theft after the Iowa State Patrol said he stole a wallet from a woman''s purse during a visit to the state capitol in March, the story stated.

The charges were dropped in exchange for Clemons taking a first-time offender class, the story noted.

According to the story, Clemons, who ultimately lost his job with Cedar Rapids Community Schools, never admitted guilt.

Clemons was the president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 199 and was job-shadowed for a day by then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2008, the story added.
