TALLADEGA, AL — After the grounds of the 2.66 mile
Talladega Superspeedway stop rumbling and the more than 120,000 cheering fans vacate the premises, a weeklong cleanup effort begins, according to the
Anniston Star.
Extreme Clean USA Inc. has a contract with the International Speedway Corporation, which owns most of the racetracks in
North American Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), and performs cleanup at several tracks on the circuit, the story stated.
According to the story, Extreme Clean founder Matt Peach learned the mass-cleanup technique while employed as a staffer for the
Walt Disney World Resort, a place where removing thousands of pounds of refuse is a daily occurrence.
Extreme Clean employs about 150 people depending on the size of the venue they are cleaning and taps into nonprofit organizations for much of its workforce, the story noted.
Josh Gray, an assistant director of the
Master''s Commission, a nonprofit traveling the country doing missionary work, said: "At lot of our students are right out of high school, and this gives them job experience. If you can clean toilets for 10,000 NASCAR fans, you can do any kind of work."
Extreme Clean expects to haul out some 350 tons of garbage that includes beer cans, firewood, camping equipment and even reclining chairs, the story added.
Rusty Tillman, senior event manager for Extreme Clean, said: "We try to put as much back into the local community as we can. We work with local churches, such as
Munford Baptist and
Apostolic Life Center, who do cleanup as a fundraiser. And we hire local workers through a staffing company."
