DAYTON, OH — Water samples taken February 22 from Miami Valley Hospital’s new 12-story patient tower tested positive for Legionella bacteria, according to the Dayton Business Journal.
However, samples collected after remediation was completed February 25 confirmed that the hospital has safe water, the article noted.
"Preliminary findings indicate the water flow and water temperature were both factors in allowing the Legionella bacteria to colonize," said Tim Keane, a consultant for the Pennsylvania-based Environmental Infection Control Consultants.
After learning of a cluster of four cases of
Legionella pneumonia in the hospital''s new patient tower on February 22, the hospital implemented water restrictions to the addition, the article stated.
