Strike averted in Chicago

April 10, 2012

CHICAGO — An impending strike has been avoided as union janitors reach an "in principle" agreement with the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The tentative agreement will cover members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1 who are janitorial employees in more than 200 BOMA member buildings, the article stated.

According to the release, union members are expected to vote on the contract by April 14.

"We are pleased to have negotiated in principle a mutually-beneficial contract that addresses the needs of our members and the members of Local 1," said Michael Cornicelli, executive vice president of BOMA Chicago.
