Sheriff warns of dishonest duct cleaners

April 16, 2012

SEBRING, FL — The Sebring Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a potential scam involving an air duct cleaning company doing business as Environmental Cleaning Services, according to the Tampa Tribune.

The company is taking out advertisements in local coupon magazines offering $49.95 air duct cleaning, a price that skyrockets once they arrive in your home and claim to have discovered mold, the story stated.

According to Public Information Officer Nell Hays, the workers ask that the check be made payable to them instead of the company — an instant red flag, the story noted.

Those who have done business with Environmental Cleaning Services or a similar company within the past year and have been charged more than the advertised rate due to the presence of mold are asked to call the Highlands County Sheriff''s Office at (863) 402-7200, the story added.
